Online services and databases for Food Safety

Online services and databases used by the EC to help ensure Food Security for its citizens.

Pesticides database

  • Active substances
    The database contains information on active substances (including those that are low-risk or candidates for substitution) and basic substances, either approved or non-approved in the EU. Some safeners and synergists are also listed but these have not yet been assessed at EU level.
    You can find the latest updates related to active substances here.
  • Food products
    Users can search for a particular food product (e.g. oranges) and retrieve the MRLs for all pesticide residues that apply to that product.
  • Pesticide residues and the MRLs that apply for such residues in food products
    Users can select a particular pesticide residue in specific food products and find the current or historical MRLs that legally apply. Users can also download data on MRLs.
    You can find the latest updates related to MRLs.
  • Emergency Authorisations of plant protection products in Member States of the European Union.
    Emergency authorisations granted in accordance with Article 53 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 by Member States from June 2016 onwards are present in the database. Users can search by various parameters to identify relevant emergency authorisations.
  • Data download and APIs
    In addition to browsing our comprehensive data online, we offer convenient download options for easy access to the information, this functionality aims to streamline your access to pesticides data.
    For IT specialists and developers, we also have machine-to-machine APIs (Application Programming Interface). The APIs provide a direct link to our database, allowing you to programmatically retrieve the latest pesticide information for your applications, research projects, or analyses.

Food and Feed Information Portal Database

Decontamination Substances

The Commission has established a European Union data base of substances, other than potable water, authorised to remove surface contamination from products of animal origin in accordance with Article 3(2) of Regulation (EC) No 853/2004.

Feed Additives

The Commission has established the European Union Register of Feed Additives, which is regularly updated, and it makes reference/links to the relevant authorisation Regulations. Those Regulations include the specific requirements for placing the additives on the EU and EEA market.

Food Additives

This database is a searchable tool informing about the food additives approved for use in food in the EU and their conditions of use. It is based on the Union list of approved food additives laid down in Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008.

Food Allergens

This database is a searchable tool informing on substances or products causing allergies or intolerances as listed in Annex II to Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the provision of food information to consumers.

Food Contact Materials

This database is a searchable tool informing about Food Contact Materials Union Register of recycling installations, facilities, companies, schemes, authorisations and novel recycling technologies as described in Reg 2022/1616 under Art 24. Search the EU register of:

Food Flavouring

This database is a searchable tool informing about the flavouring substances approved for use in food in the EU and their conditions of use. It is based on the Union list of approved flavourings and source materials laid down in Annex I to Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008.

Genetically Modified Organisms

These search engines cover the Community register of GM food and feed (Regulation (EC) 1829/2003), the pending, withdrawn and expired GM products (Regulation (EU) 619/2011) and GMOs authorised under Directive 2001/18/EC.

Health Claims

The search tool only allows searches for health claims, and not nutrition claims.

Infant Formulae & Follow-on Formulae manufactured from protein hydrolysates

The search tool allows for searches for both infant formulae and follow-on formulae.

Novel Food

The Implementing Regulation establishing the list of novel foods compiles all the authorised novel foods in the European Union to date. It includes their conditions of use, labelling requirements, and their specifications.

Nutrients

This database is a searchable tool informing about the nutritional substances such as vitamins, minerals and others that are approved for use in the EU.

Smoke flavourings

This database is a searchable tool informing about the smoke flavouring products approved for use in the EU and their conditions of use. It is based on the Union list of authorised smoke flavouring primary products for use as such in or on foods and/or for the production of derived smoke flavouring laid down in Annex to Regulation (EC) No 1321/2013.
